Friends Groups

Friend Your Library

Multiple community groups support the work of Chemung County Libraries:

Friends of CCLD

The Friends of the Chemung County Library District (Friends of CCLD) supports the functions and activities of the District libraries through funding and advocacy. Friends of CCLD promotes programs and events for reading and library use; and creates and enriches learning and cultural opportunities for adults and children served by the CCLD.

Fundraisers and programs include:

  • Library Book Store at Steele Memorial Library
  • Books Sandwiched In Book Review

Friends of the HFL

The Friends of Horseheads Free Library is a non-profit organization whose object is to promote the interest and welfare of the Horseheads Free Library as a cultural, educational, and recreational asset to the Horseheads community. Our members are people from the community who value the library. Our organization is led by President Joanne Paulison as well as a treasurer and a secretary.

How we help the library:

  • Yearly membership drive for donations
  • Program offering free books to children who check out items from the collection
  • Annual book sale in partnership with community service organizations
  • Providing opportunities for students to earn community service hours
  • Accepting book donations; donation guidelines do apply

We are introducing the use of Venmo at our sale and have a QR code for patrons to use.

Big Flats Library Advocates

The Big Flats Library Advocates was incorporated in 2004 to promote the Library and to advocate for its continued presence in our town.
