On behalf of the Chemung County Library District Friends groups (for book sales, benefiting the library), Steele Memorial Library and Horseheads Free Libraries accept donations of used books, audiobooks, or DVDs that are in good condition.

• There is a maximum of five standard liftable boxes/bags per visit.

To donate local yearbooks or special materials of local historical interest, contact the Steele Memorial Library’s Genealogy and Local History Department (607) 733-9173 x4 or use the online contact form (yearbook donations are not accepted by the Friends for the book sales).

To donate puzzles or board games, contact:

Items Not Accepted:

• Damaged, moldy, or smelly books
• Non-fiction books with dated information (almanacs, travel guides over 10 years old, health books over 5 years old)
• Encyclopedias, Textbooks, or Reader’s Digest condensed books
• Magazines & periodicals
• Sheet music
• LP records, VHS, and Cassette Tapes (CDs can be donated to Horseheads Friends)

Note: Per the library’s policy, gifts become the property of the Library District and the Library District maintains the right to dispose of gift materials in a manner consistent with applicable law, need, and condition of materials.
